Using web disk now

I was taking a look at my cpanel and I found out a feature I didn´t know. It is called web disk and for me it is perfect because I am not allowed to install an ftp software in my computer at work. With this web disk I have access to my server so I can send and take files from there.

I had no problem installing it in my computer at work because the computer has Windows XP but at home I use Windows Vista and it is kind of complicated to install it with Vista.

I don´t know if this feature is being offered by my hosting company or if it is a cpanel feature. I am not a computer expert. I just like to install things and ask for help later when things go wrong.

In this case I didn´t even have to ask for help.

The weirdest error in Windows Vista

I tried to turn on my computer today and I got a surprise. Windows Explorer wouldn´t run, no matter what I did. I tried to login in safe mode, I restart the system a lot of times, I prayed.

I could do a couple of things, and one of those was to use Firefox (Internet Explorer is loyal to Windows Explorer so it wouldn´t run either).

The error I was getting had something to do with AppHangB1, so I decided to search for this term but after a while I noticed that it is related to an unknown error.

I was already hopeless when I noticed that Windows Explorer was working again, and then I saw that the problem was caused by myself.

Yesterday I download a lot of gif and png files (to be used in my arcade game site) and I was fool enough to let them in Desktop. I should have deleted them after I uploaded them to my server, but it was late and I just forgot.

I hope I will never do that again.

I love computers but…

I am crazy about computers but I have to confess that I don´t know as much about computers as I should. People see me working with computers and talking about them and they think I am an expert but like I said, I am not.

Usually I make some researches about things I am curious about. Sometimes I find great sites with tons of information. For instance, I just came across this site that will teach you how to open docx file.

You could think that this is easy. All you have to do is open that file using Word. I have to tell you that it is not quite like that. I had this problem one day. I had to open a docx file but I didn´t have, and I still don´t have, Word in my computer.

I had Linux at that time so I thought all I had to do was to open the document at work. The problem is I hadn´t the right version that would allow me to open the file.

I made a lot of researches until I found the answer. After a few hours I was able to open the file and I have to confess that I don´t remember it anymore.

Anyway, as I said before, I found that site that teaches us what to do in that and many other situations.

I guess I will just bookmark the site and refer to it the next time I have a problem.

Laptops and other things

I have talked about my new laptop here but I wanted to add some things. After a few weeks using it I need to say that Vista is not that bad, having a smaller screen is a good thing, and it is possible to play 3D games for hours without crashing the computer.

This notebook is amazing. I am sure it is not the best ever but for me it is just perfect. It has a very good processor, a good video card and lots of memory.

One of the things I really liked is the hability to ready a memory stick. Not only one type actually. It can read 5 different cards. It is a good thing because I have a memory stick in my camera. Everytime I wanted to transfer my photos to the computer I had to hunt for the cable. It was so stressing.

Now things are so easier that I can´t believe. And this computer has bluetooth as well. It is easy to transfer files from my cell phone now.

I am really happy with it. I hope it will last four or five years.
